Question:
Who makes the best garage door opener? I had Sears in two different
houses and after a few years, something would break. I've heard and read
that Stanley and Liftmaster were good brands but do not know that many
people that have them?
Answer:
-I've never had problems with Sears openers. Their current "special
purchase" 1/2 HP for $129 looked good. I bought two - the nice thing
is that the remote has 3 buttons (3 codes) and the openers can learn
mulitple codes. Thus my open can open either door as can my wife's.
I bought a light switch which is turned on/off by the remotes.
Stanelys are certainly good - Nevfer ehard of Liftmasters.
-I've had two Sears for a total of 11 or so years and haven't had one
problem with them. In fact my current one is 11 years old also. I like the
Sears because the codes are more secure than most. Sears has a 3^9 or
3^10 coding. Most others had a 2^8 coding.
-Chain operated GDOs are most troublefree and reliable,Plus are far less
complicated to align Door position shut off/on to the main motor drive..
I have repaired Tons of Newer Track type GDOs but only "adjust" Chain
operated ones..Sears/Wards etc charge a fortune to Fix a GDO and in most
cases a simple repair costs more than a whole GDO system in the box! The
chain system was so simple that a kid could align it properly.
