Question:
I am posting this so nobody else gets screwed the way I did. I bought a
Clopay garage door 10 years ago and within the first 5 years it developed a
stress crack right at the end of the stiffener I put on it, so I added to
the stiffener. Their instructions on the door said to add a 4' support in
the middle if you are using a garage door opener, which I had. Now after
I've used it more it just keeps cracking, so I called the company for
support and they said I never added the support that came with it. I took
everything out of the box and there was no stiffener with it nor do I think
there would have been room for one.
I talked to a salesman at Lowes and he said they quit handling their
doors for that problem. I guess I don't want anyone else to get screwed like
I did. I thought this door would last at least till it rusted out not
cracked up!
If any one knows of a good name in garage doors that I should get let me
know.
Answer:
-Your right that the angle iron does not come with the door. I've put in
half a dozen of their doors and all my costomers love them.
You can go to your states website(_ _ _.gov) and file a complaint with
your states Attorney General. It should only take about five minutes to
fill the form out. You may not have been talking to the right person
when you called the factory. I believe a good company will really want
to fix this after being contacted by your state.
You might get a call from a factory rep who will come out and inspect
your door and hopefuly replace the defective panel.
-For a panel door look, I love the Elite lifetime warranty Door made of
composites. Any time a basketball can hit the door and have no
effect, I will support this door. Accepts paint well.
