Question:
I need to replace my old wood swing up door with something that I can put
an opener on. The wood gets fairly wet and heavy in the rainy season
(even though I've got it sealed well). I would like to retain the
soundproofing and insulation of the wood door, though. Anyone have a
suggestion?
Answer:
Locate your nearest Raynor Door dealer. The have some excellent
insulated steel doors. They also have hardware thats treated for
surviving in moist conditions.
Raynor is a high quality door, but not as high quality as Premium Door.
It is a vinyl door made by Premium Garage Door Corp. It has the highest insulation
value in the industry. It will not dent. You can throw a baseball at it and not
dent it. We had a guy hit one with a sledge hammer and not have any effect on the
door. It does not rust, which is very important in coastal regions. It has the
look of real wood grain. The end stiles grain is vertical, unlike most steel doors
where all the wood grain runs one way.
We had a Martin sectional door put in a couple of years ago in So. Calif. where
insulation isn't required but they offer them as an option. Only thing I'm
sorry about is waiting so long to replace the slab wooden door.
