Question:
Would like tpo paint my garage floor. Talking to several paint stores, they
warn me about "hot tire pickup" even for good paints. Question is this really a problem,
I do intend to use my garage to store my cars. Is there a brand or type of
paint that is not subject to hot tire pickup?
I understand that urethanes are not subject to this problem, but they are
so hard to use and so expensive. Any other ideas.
Answer:
I drive a Ford Aerostar (extended) van, and I like to back into my
garage a lot of the time. I needed to get the van far enough inside to
close the door without hitting it, and yet still have enough room to
open the rear life gate without hitting the wall. I saw someone else do
this, so I installed a tennis ball on a string suspended from the
ceiling. It's placed so that when I back into the garage, I stop when
the bright yellow tennis ball touches the rear window.
Another idea I had was to take one of these chair mats used in offices
to roll chairs around on and use it for a floor protector. When the
office was ready to throw an old one out, I took it home and put it down
on the floor so the vehicle would be parked on top of it. If my old van
drips a drop of oil now and then, it hits the chair mat. I can take the
chair mat out and hose it off or clean it with a brush if needed.
