Question:
I just bought a B-club Garage kit from New Type toys and hobbies.
It is a 1/16 Tekkaman Rapier from Tekkaman Blade and the photo
of the kit in Hobby Japan looks STUNNING. I just wanted to know
if anyone else on this list has bought a B-club kit and what
they think of it. I bought a 1/144 B-club Hyper-megalauncher
for the HG Z Gundam a while back and I was quite pleased, so
I think this kit I am buying should be good. I also saw in the
Nikaku Animart catalog a B-club kit I like: 1/72 V-dash Gundam
vinyl kit from V Gundam. Does anyone know if they made a vinyl
V2 Gundam too?
Answer:
I'm the somewhat ambivalent owner of three B-Club kits, and the hands-down
WORST kit, garage or otherwise, that I ever got stuck with was their
astonishingly lame 1/144 QUBELEY. The master model was monumentally
shitty, and was made even worse by a poor casting job and an eeeevilll
glue-and-paint repellent mold release on the parts which I've never been
able to fully get rid of. Man, I wish I'd taken a peek in the box before
dropping $130 on this dog. As it is, I'll have to scratchbuild half the
parts to get a decent replica going... more than likely, I'll just chalk
it up to youthful stupidity and buy the Wave kit instead.
Also, I bought the 1/100 RX-78 GUNDAM Ver.Ka, which was much better, but
still marred by some sloppy master work and bad casting. The rifle and
bazooka barrels are both noticably warped, some hard-to-reproduce details
on the legs and hands are done pretty badly, and the backpack is a
hopeless mandatory scratchbuild. Fortunately, the kit is salvagable, and
has definite Cool potential. Still, I might have passed on this one had I
been able to see it before purchasing. Nice box, though.
And then there was the 1/144 BYARLANT kit, which is wonderfully detailed,
perfectly modeled, and looks so pretty in the box it almost seems a shame
to build it. So you never really know what you're getting with B-Club. I'd
be really curious to hear from those who've bought some of the other kits.
I'd suuuuurrre like one of those new KAMPFER kits, provided it doesn't
suck...
