Question:
I have a Lift Master door opener and it usually take three trys to get the
door closed but it opens ok.
I pulled it closed manually and it doesn't seem to be hanging up in the
track.
Can anyone in the group help me please?
Answer:
Just a word of warning to anyone who feels the need to go with a different
brand of opener......Chamberlain, Lift-Master, and Craftsman garage door
openers are all made by the Chamberlain company. Lift-Master is supposed to
be their commercial-grade brand. Having said that, I have a 3/4 HP
Craftsman and it works like a charm.
New door and a Lift Master installed last summer. Within 2 months it started
"stopping" when closing (no auto-reverse or blinking lights). Pressing the
button would make the door continue down (not back up again)..strange. Would
happen 1 out of every 10 times. Called the installer back out where the
checked the door and opener...everyting fine. The part way closing
continued. Called them back where the re-adjusted the door (a call to Lift
Master and they claim it's the door...what else would they say). Seems to
work okay now.
Two months later, it starts acting up again (stops in various locations when
closing, never when opening and the door seems smooth and balanced...).
Called them back out where this time they change the circuit board in the
opener. All is well.....for about 2 months and then guess what....
Called them back again (they have yet to see it stop working as it is so
intermittent) and this time the "owner" comes out a re-adjusts the door
himself. All is okay again.
Well it's been another 3 months and.....viola...3 times in the last 3 days
it's stopping again....will be calling them tomorrow. I have no answers and
I assume they won't be thrilled to hear from me again..
They only things I can think of was that they had to use a 12" radius curve
in the track (15" is normal) due to the new low ceiling, so the door
movement is not as "fluid" as when we used to have the old curve, but it is
a new door so it is hard to compare. I'm still leaning (and will suggest)
that the entire opener be changed to rule it our or not...
