Question:
I am considering having a gas heater installed in the garage (2-car).
which is 'better' - vented or vent free? there's a gas water heater
and furnace in the garage, i'm assuming they could tap the garage
heater vent into the existing vent, as well as the gas line?
if anyone has had this recently done, please reply with your
experience and how much it cost - i prefer the blue flame vice the
radiant type. Please help me solve this problem.
Answer:
Before "tapping in", the flue would have to be evaluated for its
capacity. Ditto for the gas line. Might ask the gas utility for
advice but I bet you're going to need professional evaluation
(for the job) and likely permits.
In many communities it is a code violation to have floor mounted open flame
appliances in a vehicle garage. Perhaps your installations have combustion air
sources brought in from outside.
Whatever system you choose, check with your city building inspection people for
common sense rules of safe heating. Todays fuel injected cars can squirt out
quite a lot of fuel should a leak develop. The fuel systems remain under
limited pressure for some time in order to make startup easier.
