Question:
My garage door opener just broke and I'm taking the opportunity to install
a new one. This brought to my attention that the idiot who previously
owned my house thoroughly screwed up the door's counter-balance springs
when he installed the old one.
It's a large, one piece door. It looks like it's supposed to have two
coil springs on each side, but only has one each now. Two new springs
have been hanging on the wall since before I bought the place.
Adding only one of the new springs made the springs too stiff for the
door. Two alone aren't enough. I conclude the mechanism is badly in need
of tuning.
I do _not_ want to hire a "professional" to do this, as all the books seem
to recommend. On the other hand, I've never done it before, so I could
use some advice from those who have or a pointer to some kind of
documentation.
Did I mention I need to know by this coming Saturday?
Answer:
I had the same problem with u and
I found all the information I need at the
local Home Depot. They sell Holmes garage door hardware and give away
detailed brochures about installation and adjustment. I plan to do the
deed tonight (before the door gets rained on and too heavy to move, I hope).
