Question:
I would like to build my own single piece garage door for a shipping
container. I live in Hawaii and have not found a source to buy the
hardware to open and close the door here on or on the net. Local sources
will only sell me a completed and installed door. BUT I want to do it
myself.
Answer:
What I have is part of a shipping container that is used on ocean-going
ships. The opening at each end is 7'8" square. Both ends are open, I
have the middle part of the container( about 13' long) we cut into
pieces. I would like to put a large door at each end for both access and
ventilation when using the container. I do not want a roll up door, I
want to build a single piece garage door, also known as "shinbusters" and
put one in each end. A company in Calif builds Holmes Garage Doors
hardware but has not answered my email request for prices. All the
companies I tried here in Hawaii will only sell me an installed door made
to my specs. I can & want build the door itself and I want to buy the
hardware (which includes springs) that the door rides on.
