Question:
I plan to remove a 10' door, widen the opening, and install a 16' door
into a double garage. How difficult to install garage door ?
Answer:
I just replaced my wooden one-piece, original, 16x7 foot, spring loaded
door and opener yesterday (19 May). It was replaced with a steel
panelled, track mounted, with new opener. Ordinarily, I would undertake
this kind of a project but fixing the door in the past made me leery of
doing it.
The alignment (horz/vert) is so critical both to the door and to the
opener and the doors are heavy and don't lend themselves to easy
adjustment at initial installation. I watched the whole operation and
believe it money well spent and that I can handle most future happenings
as the alignment is perfect and I can adjust any future deviance.
Also, after your re-framing of the expansion, an estimator will come out
and evaluate the reframing relative to his doing the installation - that
could be valuable info for you.
My cost = 550 door+300 opener. Done in Cupertino Calif.....GOOD LUCK!!
