Question:
I'm interested in learning about home automation and security systems.
In particular, I'm interested in finding out about wireless sensors
as used in home security and automation systems. Could anyone point
me to some technical references on these devices. Is this area
standardized or are these sensors proprietary to a given manufacturer.
Answer:
Linear uses 315mHz for their alarms. Houston is confusing Linear garage
door openers with Linear alarms. Almost no knowledgeable security dealer
considers Linear wireless alarms to be high security. They're basic, simple
systems with limited application, certainly not what you'd want to use to
protect a high-value target which might be targeted by an skilled,
professional thief.
Even in that regard, Houston is still wrong. Linear's garage door openers
use 300, 310 and 318mHz. There may be some 303.9 products but not among
Linear's alarm control panels.
