Question:
I have a seven year old Raynor Garage Door Opener that has decided to
open the door to various heights and stop. Sometimes, it will open
the door 2 feet, sometimes 4 feet, and sometimes all the way. The
Opener does not have the new electric eye protection system.
Anybody have any ideas on how to fix this problem?
Answer:
First disconnect the door from the opener, and test door operation by
hand. It should work smoothly, and not feel heavy.
Assuming you have a sectional door...
Lubricate all rollers, hinges, and bearings. If you have torsion
springs, don't forget the bearings that support the torsion bar near
the cable drums.
If the door feels heavy (it should be able to stop in mid opening) and
you have torsion springs... Call a professional.
If it feels heavy and you have extension springs (springs that run
along the track from front to back) Open the door all the way and
block it up (visegrips on the track work well) adjust the cables to
tighten the springs a little.
Oh yeah... check for excess rubbing against the jambs, or too tight in
the tracks... adjust tracks if necessary (their probably OK.)
Now the door should be working OK.
Now for the opener...
LIGHTLY lubricate all moving parts... chain or screw, rail, pulleys.
bearings...
It should run smooth and quiet now.
Reconnect the door and test.
