Stanley Garage Door Sensor

Question:
I just bought one of those X10 Stanley Garage Door Sensor kits. It appears that the transmitter and the receiver need to be extremely close together, like 3 feet, for this thing to work. My outlet for the receiver is about 10 feet away from the door, will this thing ever work? What am I doing wrong?

Answer:
After my garage door monitor receiver failed I got a new one. I noticed that the range is quite less than that of my original one which was probably close to 7 years old. I have my receiver mounted high on the ceiling where one of the garage door opener's outlet is with the antenna pointing down. That made the difference for me as I was having problems with the receiver if it was plugged into a low wall outlet. BTW, the garage door monitor receiver is also a regular X-10 receiver if you didn't know that.
