Question:
I want to construct a garage. I was looking into a pre fab steel
building. Is that the way to go? The size would be 25' x 30" or longer.
(us steel buildings) was the company I looked into so far. I'm looking
for a cost effective way
Answer:
In the 25' width, steel buildings cannot compete with standard wood framing,
and that would be the only reason for going with steel on a residential
garage. Maybe that's why you rarely find residential garages constructed of
a pre-engineered metal building package. Your best deal would be what is
most often used in your region for a garage.
If there are any light-gauge residential steel framers in your area they
may be able to build for less than wood. Note, however, that this is
NOT the same sort of steel building you were originally refering to.
All framing is identical to wood, except steel studs are used instead of
2x4's.
