Question:
I'm moving into a house that has a metal shed about 12' x 17', with only a dirt
floor. It does have 110v and 220v, and a phone line. I've got a pretty
extensive inventory of tools, and it seems to me that the shed is too small for
a comfy, workable shop.
I'd like to tear down the shed and pour a concrete floor and put up either a
new wood frame or metal shop. The available space will be about 20' x 20'.
I'm looking for opinions on either type: (wood, metal), and any information on
companies that sell the metal kinds.

I did just what you are thinking, but it was supposed to be a garage, and it
was at first. I priced both types of buildings, wood and steel. The
difference was not enough to make any difference. Does that sound right?
Anyway, I opted for the metal garage because I was going to build it myself
and the metal one looked easier to do and faster to get done. It is a metal
pole building, 24'x32', took me about 6 weeks of daily toil and effort, but
it looks good, matches the house and is now a workshop. Yep, you guessed
it, the truck sits outside now.
I also bought a total package kit from Carter lumber which included all the
nails, garage door, entry door, everything you needed, including the
quickcrete for the poles. Lowes sells these in package form as well. There
are a multitude of various sized buildings to choose from. If you go with a
pole building, just make sure you install the poles plumb, straight and
accurate, else the building will out of kilter. I built mine for just under
$4000, in KY anyway.
